Do you remember Wong Fu Production I mentioned a few posts ago?

Wong Fu Production started with 3 college students who shared a passion for video production. They began by uploading their short films on YouTube. They hit the one million viewer mark in 2007, and their online fame continues to grow.

There are relatively few business-savvy YouTube artists who are able to translate their online popularity into a business.  Wong Fu is one in a few. What makes them more than an Internet sensation is their decision to develop a video production company and an online store, areyouaniceguy.com.

In 2007, they launched their first product, A Nice Guy T-Shirt, through their first mini series called “Just A Nice Guy” by wearing the T-Shirt in the mini series. After their first product was launched, tons of fans requested the T-Shirt and "Are You a Nice Guy" store was founded after that.

While they began selling T-Shirts, they have currently expanded their product line to include new products such as Awkward Animals and A Nice Guy Accessories. They market their other products in the same way by using Awkward Animal as props and wearing all clothes and accessories in their videos.

Wong Fu has created a great business model by using social media to build their fans and to define their targets. Did I mention they are Asian-Americans? They have a very strong passion for Asian-American culture, particularly in the Los Angeles community.  This has resulted in a rabid fan base of, primarily, Asians and Asian-Americans enabling Wong Fu to target their videos and products to this specific population.

Define your target, and get ready to hit it!  Wong Fu has shown that you can be business savvy as well as internet famous.
